Wildlife Rescue

Alongside our poultry, The Fluffy Thistle provides small-scale wildlife rescue and rehabilitation for wild birds in need. We take in injured, sick and vulnerable birds, providing them with appropriate care, rehabilitation and a safe place to recover. Wherever possible, our goal is always to return wildlife back to the wild.

Found Injured Wildlife?

If you've found an injured or vulnerable wild bird, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.

When contacting us, it helps if you can provide:

The species, if known
Where the animal was found
A description of the injury or problem
Photos or a short video where possible
Whether you currently have the animal contained

Please contact us before bringing wildlife to us, so we can make sure we have suitable space available and advise you on what to do in the meantime.

Rehabilitation & Release

Every animal that comes into our care is assessed individually. Depending on their needs, this may involve wound care, supportive feeding, medication where appropriate, safe housing and gradual rehabilitation.

Once an animal has recovered and is able to survive independently, we release them back into a suitable wild environment.

When Release Isn't Possible, Unfortunately, not every animal can safely return to the wild. Some injuries or disabilities can leave an animal unable to fly properly, find food, escape predators or otherwise survive independently.

Where appropriate and where we can provide a suitable long-term environment, some non-releasable birds are able to remain with us. They can live alongside compatible birds with access to shelter, food, water and outdoor space.

Supporting Our Rescue

The Fluffy Thistle Wildlife Rescue is not a registered charity. Our rescue is run alongside The Fluffy Thistle, and the cost of caring for the wildlife that comes through our doors is funded from our own pockets. This includes food, bedding, housing, rehabilitation supplies, medication, veterinary treatment and everything else an animal may need during its recovery.

Donations are never required for us to accept an injured bird. If an animal needs our help, our priority is getting it the care it needs, regardless of whether the person who found it is able to contribute anything.

For those who would like to support what we do, donations of supplies or contributions towards veterinary bills and ongoing care are always hugely appreciated and allow us to continue helping wildlife in need.
