Cockerel Returns & Rehoming

 

When keeping a cockerel is no longer possible

 

We understand that circumstances can change and keeping a cockerel isn't always possible. You may have hatched more males than expected, have too many males for your flock, be unable to keep them because of neighbours or housing restrictions, or simply no longer have a suitable setup for them.

 

Cockerels originally supplied by The Fluffy Thistle can be returned to us, subject to us having sufficient space. We may also accept cockerels from other poultry keepers when capacity allows.

 

Once accepted, birds join our poultry flock and are cared for alongside our other poultry. We do not operate a temporary holding or collection service where birds are immediately passed from one person to another.

 

Our Minimum Two-Week Assessment Period

 

Every incoming cockerel remains within our flock for a minimum of two weeks before we will consider supplying him to another poultry keeper.

 

During this period we monitor:

 

• General health and condition

• Signs of illness

• Temperament

• Behaviour around people

• Behaviour around other poultry

• Signs of persistent aggression

 

 

This gives each bird time to settle into our environment and allows us to get to know him properly.

 

We will not knowingly supply a bird showing signs of illness or persistent aggression. Birds that aren't considered suitable will remain as part of our flock where appropriate.

 

Cockerels Available to Poultry Keepers

 

We regularly have cockerels within our flock that may be suitable for other poultry keepers.

 

If you're looking to add a cockerel to your flock, please contact us and let us know what you're looking for. Depending on what we currently have available, we may be able to match you with a bird suited to your flock and setup.

 

All cockerels made available will have been with us for at least two weeks and assessed for health, behaviour and temperament beforehand.

 

Cost & Donations

 

There is no charge for bringing a cockerel to us, and there is no charge for taking one of our available cockerels for your poultry flock.

 

We don't provide payment, refunds or replacement birds for cockerels brought to us.

 

Donations are completely optional and are never a condition of us accepting or supplying a bird. However, they're always greatly appreciated and help towards the cost of keeping and caring for our poultry.

 

Donations don't have to be money. Poultry feed, corn, bedding and other useful poultry supplies are equally appreciated. Every little bit helps.

 

Bringing Us a Cockerel

 

Please contact us before bringing a cockerel to the property.

 

Our ability to accept additional birds depends on the space and facilities we have available at the time. Contacting us beforehand allows us to confirm that we're able to accommodate another bird.

 

Once accepted, the cockerel becomes part of The Fluffy Thistle's poultry flock and will receive the same care and management as our other birds.
